Before I end my vacation . . .
ST. JOHN’S, NL—. . . I just had to do some more shopping at Value Village.
I go there basically for books and vinyl records (and sometimes shoes). I bought this today—still sealed and in perfect condition:
1977 is one of my favorite years. At that time—long before the advent of music videos on MTV—the video clip (as it was called then) for Samantha Sang’s Emotion was frequently shown on TV.
Written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, the song carried that distinctive Bee Gees sound and vibe. Because of this, my eldest brother (who has a natural talent for raunchy and off-color comedy) often remarked then that Samantha Sang had a voice that sounded like a _ _ _ _ _ _ . (The Bee Gees sounding like _ _ _ _ _ _ _ was a running gag in the Philippines.)
Over at Winners, I had to get these—and how I wished there were more of them:
People from the Biblical regions of Greece, Turkey, the Levant, Iran, Assyria, and Armenia have been engaged in a centuries-long (and sometimes heated) debate over the origins and the rightful ownership of baklava. However, I love Turkish Delight more.
